Once an intern is hired and teaching on an intern certificate no exams will be approved during phase II of the program while the candidate is on an active certificate.
- This includes supplemental exams like the 154 ESL supplemental and the 163 Special Education Supplemental.
If the intern's teaching assignment changes during their intern year of teaching they would need to pursue a switch certification.
We no longer can allow exam approvals for supplemental areas while the candidate is on an active certificate. Candidates will need to pass the exam before the Intern Certificate is issued or via the Certification by exam route with TEA once their Standard Certificate is earned.
The following verbiage was added to the employment email once an SOE is processed. This will be sent to the intern and the HR Contact provided on the SOE.
Please note, that you must add any additional certification areas, including supplemental, before obtaining the Intern or Probationary Certificate or after you have received the Standard Certificate. (See Certification by Exam)
