Switching Certification areas affects interns in Hired status only or in Phase II of the program 


Interns who taught on an intern certificate or a probationary certificate for their first year of teaching and now want to switch or change certification areas for a second year of teaching.  


To Qualify:

  • Must have either an expired intern or probationary certificate or have resigned from their current position and we have deactivated their current certificate. 
  • They need to pass a new content exam (will need to manually request test approval) 
  • Pre-service must be complete
  • PPR Review needs to be complete with an 80% or higher on each section
  • Pass the PPR exam (if previously taught on an intern cert) 
  • Any past due invoices will need to be paid


The intern's SOE will not become available to them until all of the above has been completed with the exception of program fees 



Steps intern must take once qualified: 

  • Submit new SOE to their hiring districts HR department for them to fill out and return to us 
  • submit a new job form through their intern portal under Menu>employment 
  • apply and pay for a probationary certificate through TEA (or intern cert if previously taught on a probationary) 
  • Establish payment for switch fees 



Switch Year Requirements:

  • Intern must teach for a full year on a probationary certificate in their new certification area 
  • New Principal recommendation is needed for 2nd year of teaching in their new cert area 
  • Will receive field supervisor observations (3 or 5 depending on which cert they teach on) see Field Supervisor observations 
  • Must complete any remaining program requirements (i.e. supplemental coursework for new cert area, and internship project) 
  • Pay switch cert fees (Paragraph 3 of intern agreement, 2nd amount) 
  • Switch Cert fees are paid out over 10 months via ACH withdrawal
