Once the intern has completed the enrollment process, we want to be sure that they know what needs to be completed in Phase 1. Review their Intern Portal with them to ensure they know how to navigate through it and where to find the information they need.

Phase 1

  1. Complete Classroom Readiness Training.
    • Number of hours depends on the certification area
      • Secondary levels require 93 hours
      • Elementary and Early Childhood Education requires 99 hours
      • Special Education - Emotional Disturbances or Learning Disabilities requires 102 hours
      • Special Education - Multi-Categorial require 105 hours
  2. Take the Praxis 2 Exam
    • The intern will need to take their exam in their certifiable area.  They will register for the exam here. Praxis Exam
    • When registering for the exam, the intern wants to make sure Teachers of Tomorrow will receive the exam results. Our Recipient Code for Teachers of Tomorrow South Carolina is 6645
  3. Once the intern has completed their Praxis 2 Exam and their Classroom Readiness Training, they will need to update their payment information. This can be done in their Intern Portal under the Menu>Employment Documents>Payment Setup Page.
    • Or if the intern has updated their employment they can complete the payment setup under the Payment option.
    • This is also a good time to verify that the intern has applied for their Alternate Route Certificate
  4. Once the intern has updated their payment for the program fees, and they have completed all Phase 1 requirements, you will send them the Letter of Eligibility.
    • The Letter of Eligibility is available in their Intern Portal under employment documents.
    • Add the intern's name and ID number to the Excel file to be sent to the Department of Education. Excel file
    • The Intern can use their LOE to begin preparing for their job search. The Department of Education will send the intern a Statement of Eligibility that they can submit to the district to show they have met the qualifications to be hired.
    • Once employed, the Department of Education needs to have confirmation from the school that the intern is teaching for their certifiable area. The DOE will then send the intern their Alternate Route Certificate, which will need to be sent to Teachers of Tomorrow.
