To qualify for Teachers of Tomorrow, the applicant must first qualify with the Department of Education.  They will need to apply for their Statement of Eligibility.  TOT will need an eligible Statement of Eligibility, a copy of their transcripts, and their Background Check form received back as clear to begin the enrollment process.

Here is the link for the applicant to submit their application to the Department of Education:

In the state of Florida, you can teach any subject.  You must qualify for an Eligible Statement of Eligibility.   There are two ways that the intern can qualify:

  1.  Qualify by having enough course hours in your subject area based on your transcripts. This would usually happen by having the focus of your degree in the area you want to teach.
  2. Qualify by taking your Subject Area Exam**.  This requires you to apply for your Statement of Eligibility and pass your Subject Area Exam.  The exam information can be found here: https://www.fl.nesinc.com/
    • The Subject Area exam is required for those who are pursuing their Professional Certification. Encourage the intern to study/prepare for their exam. They can take their exam while they are waiting for the SOE to be issued. Once they take and pass the exam, the DOE will get their score report and update their application for the SOE.  Taking their exam can ensure that they get an Eligible Statement of Eligibility.

The timeline for getting a Statement of Eligibility is dependent on the Intern's qualifying.  If everything has been submitted correctly and the Intern meets the requirements, it will generally take about 60 days to get their Statement of Eligibility.

If the Department of Education does not show the Intern qualifies, they will receive a Not Eligible Statement of Eligibility, in which case, the statement will instruct the Intern on how to get it updated to Eligible.  The intern will need to take their Subject Area Exam to have their statement updated. Once the Department of Education has the Intern’s updated information, it will take about 60 days for the Intern to receive their updated Eligible Statement of Eligibility.

Once the Intern has their Eligible Statement of Eligibility, they can submit documentation to Teachers of Tomorrow to begin the enrollment process.

Upon receiving the Statement of Eligibility, verify that the information shows the Intern is Eligible.  It is required that they prequalify based on their SOE from the DOE.  Please review the information on the SOE with the Applicant, so they understand what steps to take to receive their Temporary License.

Next step - complete the background check form.

**Always encourage Applicants to take the Subject Area Exam!  This can reduce the amount of time it takes to get their Statement of Eligibility.
