Mentor Teachers are assigned by the Principal with school district the intern has been hired with.  However, Texas Teachers does work together with the Principal to help facilitate the assigning of a Mentor teacher.

Starting in May of 2023 mentor information and assignment is now required as part of our New SOE before we will recommend an intern certificate.  (See SOE

The intern gets both a mentor teacher and a field supervisor.

Mentor teacher is a school district employee and the field supervisor is a TOT employee.

All requests or inquiries about Mentor Teachers by interns should be directed to mentors@texasteachers.org by the advisor.

If a Mentor Teacher or Principal themselves calls in, the advisor can provide the mentors@texasteachers.org email address for the mentor/principal to reach out.

If an intern calls in stating they do not have a mentor teacher yet, advise them to reach out directly to their principal and that their campus Principal must assign the mentor.

Some interns will call in asking about a status of their SOE or their intern certificate.  If you see the following message in the intern's account indicating we are still in need of the intern's mentor information please follow the steps below.

  • Please notify the intern that we have not received confirmation from their principal regarding their mentor. The campus principal will need to complete the form below. Once complete we will assign the campus mentor on our end and notify Certification Support.
