Automatic outbound calls will be conducted at different intervals from the intern's payment date to allow us to check in and help progress the intern closer to becoming eligible for their intern certificate.

When: 30,60,90,120,150 days from the intern's payment date

Goal: Progress the intern closer to their intern certificate (Fall is optimal)

Before the call: Assess the intern's training (required courses), field-based experience, and SMK completed (passed content exam(s))

How are they doing?

  •  If showing strong progress in requirements
    1. Commend them for their efforts
    2. Find out how the program has been for them; what's going well, what challenges have they experienced
  • If not showing strong progress in requirements
    1. Ask them about their experience in the program thus far
    2. Engage about what their goal timeline is to begin their intern certificate
      • If still in the fall, help them plan their summer to optimize and complete their remaining requirements
      • Help them to understand that there are state mandates requirements that will impact them if they are not on their cert by 9/1 so review their testing timeline as well (especially if EC-6, STR, supplemental exams, etc)
      • "If you are not trying to complete the phase one requirements and start your intern certificate in the fall, that's okay! We do want to make you aware of state requirement changes effective 9/1, there will be additional requirements for field-based experience hours (from 30 to 50 hours) as well as one additional field supervisor visit. "
  • Make sure they have a strong time management plan and help them understand their next steps

Review next steps depending upon how far they are in completion:

    • Get hired (job form)-if not yet hired
    • SOE process (if they are getting close to finishing requirements)

Why an Intern Certificate in the Fall?! What is the Value?

  • Access to mentors and field supervisors
    • Individualized feedback, coaching, and support
  • Your time teaching on your intern certificate gets you closer to certification
    • 180 instructional days and what that means
  • Differentiates you from other candidates that are not certified and are early in a program
  • Avoid state-mandate changes beginning 9/1
