The deadline for our certification support team to process an SOE with a 23/24 school year start date is April 26th, 2024.
What does this mean?
Interns who have been hired for the 23/24 school year have until 04/26/2024 to be recommended for their intern certificate.
Certification Support will stop recommending intern certificates for the current 23/24 school year as of 04/27/2024.
Why are we stopping with intern cert recommendations?
Historically in May of each year, districts stop hiring for the current year and start hiring for the upcoming school year. Also, should an intern be hired in late April or early May they will most likely not be delivering NEW instruction through the end of the school year. We would not want to issue a certificate for it to go unutilized. It would put the intern at risk of being out of compliance. However, we will review any SOE submissions received after 04/26/2024 on a case-by-case basis.
If the intern has an SOE completed by the district it may be sent to soe@texasteachers.org for review by our certification support team.
SOE Processing for the 24-25 School year
- SOE processing for the 24-25 school year will begin in mid May of 2024.
- Why? New Texas Administrative Code states that mentor teachers must be trained no earlier than 12 weeks of the intern’s start date. And no later than 3 weeks. Delaying the processing of SOEs for next school year will allow this timeline to take place.
