The GPA requirement for Michigan Teachers of Tomorrow is a 2.95 or higher.  This is what should be communicated to interns.

Internal Knowledge Only:

The Michigan Department of Education keeps record of Michigan TOT's GPA average for specific cohorts.  Currently, because our average GPA is well above a 2.95 we are accepting candidates with less then 2.95 but above a 2.5.

GPA Exceptions:

2.5 GPA or higher - we will accept until further notice for admission to the program as long as the candidate meets all othe requirements.

2.0-2.49 - intern may qualify for our program with work experience and 2 positive reference letters.  Intern will need to send in their resume with the month and year of their work experience.  The references are optional.

  • Work experience must be in the education field.  For example intern worked for 6 or more months as a long-term substitute or paraprofessional at a school district.

Talking Points:

If the intern indicates on the initial application phone call that they have less than a 2.95 GPA you may use the following talking points

"Intern, our GPA requirement is currently a 2.95.  However, we could potentially make an exception based on your transcripts if yourr GPA falls below that.  I would recommend sending in your official transcripts as soon as possible so we can determine your eligibility."

"If your GPA is less than a 2.5 we may be able to qualify you for our program with additional work experience.  Do you have any experience in the education industry?"

If Yes:

"Great! send in your professional resume to enroll@michiganteachers.org and our manager will review it to see if we can qualify you for admission.  Additionally, you may also send 2 professional reference letters that our manager may use to also qualify you for our program."

If No:

" if your GPA is less than a 2.5 and you do not have educational work experience, Unfortunately at this time, you do not qualify for our program. We wish you luck in your endeavors."
