As of August 1st, 2023, interns going through our program will no longer need to complete First Aid/CPR certification to earn their Interim Teaching Certificate. Instead, this requirement will need to be fulfilled as part of the new teachers' in-service professional learning through their district.
Phase I: To qualify for an Interim Teaching Certificate
- Pass MTTC exam
Steps to earn an Interim Teaching Certificate:
- Get hired
- Complete federal background check
- Apply and pay for an Interim Teaching Certificate (ITC) through MOECS
- Submit the Job form through their intern portal
- Employment Verification
- Establish Payments for program fees
Phase II: Once ITC is issued to earn a standard certificate
- Complete online Classroom Readiness Training
- Complete all online Excellence in Teaching and Learning Coursework
- Complete all online projects
- Teach for 3 full academic years on an ITC
- Receive 7 Field Supervisor observations and receive a positive recommendation
- 3 observations in the first year
- 2 observations in the second year
- 2 observations in the third year
- Receive a positive principal recommendation
- Complete Michigan Work Experience form to verify time taught
- HR or Principal can complete and sign
- Program Fees paid in full
- Apply for a standard certificate through MOECS
