Several of the foreign language exams are not administed by Pearson and are instead administered via ACTFL. These exams include:
Arabic
Japanese
Mandarin Chinese
Russian
Vietnamese
Interns certifying in one of the above foreign languages will need to pass both the writing proficiency and the Oral proficiency exams of the corresponding ACTFL exam.
For Example:
600 LOTE Arabic Writing Proficiency
605 LOTE Arabic Oral Proficiency
When the intern goes to register for their ACTFL exams they will not display with the same 600 level test code. That is a test code that TEA converts them to when the intern passes their corresponding ACTFL exams (either written or oral).
Registration:
To Register for an ACTFL exam, advisors should first send the intern the email template titled "TX- ACTFL Tests."
In that email template, it will have a link to the ACTFL website where the intern can follow the steps to register for an exam.
Step 1: They will need to select their language
Step 2: Select the option for teacher certification
Step 3: Choose their state
Step 4: Choose program = I am not associated with any program (A+ Texas Teachers is not an option so they will need to select not associated)
Step 5: Enter the info below
Step 6: They will need to select the exam that they are needing to register for. Please note: it will not let them move past step 5 unless they are approved for the corresponding TExES exams in TEA.
From there they will follow the prompts to schedule and pay for their exams. Results are sent to TEA and TEA will post them as TExES exam 600 level.
