EdTPA is a performance-based, subject-specific assessment and support system used to emphasize, measure and support the skills and knowledge that all educators need to be effective.  For EdTPA, teacher candidates prepare a portfolio of authentic evidence that reflects their Texas classroom and students during their intern year of teaching.  Texas Teachers does NOT offer the EdTPA.

Several educator prep programs in Texas participated in a pilot of EdTPA in which their candidates were able to complete EdTPA in place of the PPR exam for certification in Texas.  Texas Teachers did not participate and we do not offer the EdTPA.  The PPR exam is still the required exam to pass for Texas Teachers' candidates to become fully certified.

Should an intern inquire about EdTPA here are some informational talking points you may use to help advise the intern.

  • Currently Texas Teachers does not offer the EdTPA and the PPR exam is still the required exam to take to earn your standard teaching certificate.
  • At this time, the PPR exam is still required to earn your standard teaching certificate.  Should that change in the future, Texas Teachers will notify our candidates well in advance of the requirements and how to prepare for it.
