291 vs. 391
The 291 Core Subjects EC-6 is a valid exam until 12/30/2022. We can still issue a standard certificate in the 291 until 12/30/2022 If an intern is currently on an intern or probationary cert. As long as they meet all requirements for a standard prior to 12/30/2022, they will qualify for their standard in the 291 Core EC-6.
We can still issue an intern or probationary certificate for the 291 until 12/30/2022
If an intern is issued an intern certificate in the 291 Core Subjects EC-6 between now and 12/30/2022 they will have to re-test and take the 391 Core Subjects EC-6 during their intern year of teaching in order to qualify for a standard certificate.
If an intern is issued a probationary certificate extension in the 291 Core Subjects EC-6, as long as they finish requirements prior to 12/30/2022 we can still issue them a standard certificate for the 291. However, if they require longer to complete requirements and their probationary extension goes past the 12/30/2022 cut off date, they will have to retest and take the 391 before being eligible for a standard certificate.
